For some reason, the history of tennis has always been associated with the color white although Black Tennis Shoes are now in vogue. All White dress was a signifier of the upper and privileged class. It was also cooler playing in white colors as white doesn’t absorb the heat from the sun like darker colors. Some people say that white clothing was part of tennis because white did not show the sweat as easily as other colors would have. I would surmise to say that there is some truth in all of these statements.
Fast forwarding to todays modern times and how things have changed. The materials and fibers that are used today in the manufacture of athletic clothing are so high tech that the color really doesn’t affect the performance anymore. White outfits will not keep you any cooler than black or red outfits. And as for tennis shoes, it is becoming more difficult to buy an all white pair of sneakers as you hardly see any white ones anymore.
Black Nike tennis shoes were worn by tennis greats Andre Agassi and Roger Federer. Agassi wore them first and perhaps started a trend with his one time bad boy image. He dared to be different. As for the lady tennis pros, Serena Williams has been seen frequently wearing womans black tennis shoes.

You probably see more black running shoes, black athletic shoes or black sneakers rather than black tennis shoes. What we used to call sneakers or tennis shoes, a pair of athletic shoes that crossed over the full gamut of sports that we played as kids has now become a much more specialized area.
You don’t just go out and buy a pair of black tennis shoes these days. Today you have to be a lot more specific in your requirements. Tennis shoes are for tennis, basketball shoes are for basketball and running shoes are for, you guessed it running. I guess there truly is a science to some of this madness when it comes to athletic shoes, although at the exorbitant prices that some of these models go for, you have to be very specific in what you are looking for or very rich.
As scientifically advanced as these black or white tennis shoes have become, in my opinion they are really more of a fashion statement. From a performance standpoint, there are a lot of good athletic shoes whether it’s Nike, Adidas or some other brand. I have to admit that some of them are very cool looking, but personally I think I will stick to basic white or basic black tennis shoes.
