It’s funny how the English language has developed and changed over the years. Words just seem to get invented, or created out of thin air. You would think that there were a whole bunch of dictionary smart people sitting around a huge conference table dreaming up these newfangled words, yet I don’t think that is the case.
Take for example the word Skort, as in tennis skorts for women. Now, I don’t ever remember having the word skorts on any spelling bee that I ever participated in. Yet, in the world of tennis and running, the word skort is commonly known and accepted as an English noun.

I don’t remember as a young female tennis player ever going to the sporting goods store (we didn’t have the luxury of shopping on the internet back then) with my mother in order to get a new skort. I had tennis dresses, tennis skirts and tennis shorts but never anything called a tennis skort.
Somebody somewhere in the middle of the night must of had a flash of genius. If you combine the benefits of a pair of ladies shorts with a ladies tennis skirt, well skirts and shorts equal tennis skorts for women. Pretty clever if you ask me. Why didn’t I think of that?
Everybody in the tennis apparel business has their own version of Skorts, although I’m not so sure that every manufacturer likes to use that term. Some companies are just plain old fashioned and they like to use age old terms like tennis skirts for women or tennis shorts for women.
Nevertheless, if you are a female tennis player such as myself, you need to wear something comfortable and practical on the tennis court. Forget the term that they are labeled, just pick what fits you right and what you like. There are plenty of styles and colors choices for everyone.
It’s P.C. (politically correct) ladies to call them tennis skorts. Whether it’s Adidas, Fila, Bolle, K-Swiss, Under Armour or some other make, I’m sure that you will find a selection of tennis skorts for women
that will please you.
